Surf Awareness and Self Rescue Techniques
The program provides the skills and knowledge of the surf environment including identification of potential hazards and environmental conditions, characteristics of waves and surf safety skills and techniques
Participants will develop the skills to identify features of rips, gutters and sweeps are identified and used to determine the most suitable surfing venue. The program also provides practical application of in self-rescue techniques prevailing conditions with and without craft. Self survival techniques are also covered.

This program is suitable for persons wishing to safely participate in surf activities including lifesavers, lifeguards, search and rescue officers or other rescue personnel who are required to perform or participate in activities (regularly or occasionally) in a surf environment
The program is physical in nature. Participants will spend most of their time either in the water, or alongside the water practising techniques in a variety of situations. The minimum time will be spent in a classroom. Participants will be required to demonstrate their ability to swim in varying conditions.
